Matthew Ronald Zobeck, Sr, of Westerville, Ohio, age 91, passed away on June 22, 2024.
He was the beloved son of Matthew J. Zobeck and Irene Cook (Rogers). He is survived by his wife Deloris Zobeck, devoted sisters Mary Stone and Elizabeth Browne, son Terry (Sandra) Zobeck and granddaughter Kathryn Zobeck, 3 stepchildren, 7 step grandchildren and 15 step great grandchildren. Matthew’s son, Matthew R. Zobeck, Jr., and his brother, Charles Edward Zobeck, predeceased him.
Matthew was born in Oswego, New York on June 26, 1932. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1949 and is a veteran of the Korean War. After the War, Matthew enrolled at the State University of New York Teachers College at Oswego where he graduated in 1957 with a degree in Industrial Arts. Matthew and his family moved to Cleveland, Ohio upon accepting a position with the Cleveland Public School System. In 1972, he earned a Master’s Degree from Kent State University in Occupational Work Experience, which he taught until his retirement. Matthew moved to the Columbus area where in 1998 he met and married Deloris.
Matthew was an active and devoted member of his church. He and Deloris volunteered their time and efforts to Lower Lights Ministries. He also developed an interest in collecting and selling art pottery. He delighted in working in his yard and helping his neighbors. Matthew will be remembered for his kindness to and compassion for others. He will be missed by his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 28 at The Church of the Nazarene, 355 Cherrington Rd, Westerville, Ohio. Visitation is from 3:00 to 4:00 and the service from 4:00 to 5:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to Mount Carmel Hospice, Columbus, Ohio.
