McKimmie C. Gorby III, (80) of Grove City, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday,
October 3, 2023, surrounded by his children. McKimmie, fondly known as Mac or Jr., was
born in Clarksburg, WV on September 20, 1943. He had fond memories of growing up
there with his siblings, his many cousins, aunts and uncles.
After high school, he joined the Navy following in the footsteps of his Dad and uncles.
He served through June 1964 and loved to share stories about navigating 3 trips around
the World. He and his younger brother, Larry Gorby, served together on the USS HUGH
PURVIS during his last World cruise. After his discharge, he worked 32 years at General
Motors and 10 years with Walmart before officially retiring.
Mac had a passion for golf, playing in leagues and played 10 years in the infamous
Spackler tournament. He loved our big family gatherings and had an uncanny ability to
infuse humor into every conversation. We will dearly miss the laughs and smiles he
instigated. The past 8 years were some of his very best-he was loving life!
His heart was big with a desire to help those in need, giving donations of food, clothing
and giving monetarily if needed. A few things he treasured most were: morning coffee on
the front porch; The Ohio State Buckeyes; watching his Grandkids and Great
Grandchildren learn, grow, and flourish; and all the family dogs as his love for them was
endless, but especially for Frankie, Scout, and Charlie who showed their love staying by
his side until the very end.
Mac is survived by his 3 children Kelly Gorby, Tiffany Gorby (Jennifer Hutchison), and
Justin Gorby (Rachel) and grandchildren Jade Freeman (Cale, Isla), Emma Green (Kellan),
Nate Green, Kylie and Ryan Niple, and Rosalia Gorby; his sister, Linda Gerasco; his
nephews Felix Gerasco (Terri), Larry Gorby Jr (Stephanie). and his niece Niki Gorby along
with his many aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his best friend Denny Haughn (Johnda). He
is preceded in death by his mother, Meeda Belle Gorby; his son McKimmie S. Gorby; his
brother Larry Gorby, and his great grandson Christopher H. Niple. He had a positive
impact on everyone he met and every path he crossed. May he rest in peace.
The family will hold a private celebration to honor Mac's life.
