Melissa Perkins

February 3, 1977 — January 5, 2025

Melissa Perkins, age 47, of Powell, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025 to be with Our Lord and Savior.

Raised by her loving parents, Jim and Jane Jolly, Melissa was a devoted daughter, a beloved sister to Lauren, and a compassionate friend to many. Above all, she was a loving and proud mother to her two sons, Aidan (16) and Grant (13), who were the light of her life.

Melissa had a profound love for the outdoors, often spending time with her boys picking strawberries, apples, and peaches. Summers were filled with days at the pool, where she created lasting memories with her sons, neighbors, and friends, while autumn brought cherished visits to the pumpkin patch. She delighted in long hikes through Inniswood Gardens and Highbanks Metro Park, sharing her appreciation for nature with her family. Melissa was always planning exciting adventures, fostering a sense of joy and exploration in her boys.

She was deeply involved in her sons’ lives, supporting their participation in Awana, Boy Scouts, and sports teams. Melissa’s dedication often found her braving the cold on camping excursions, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to creating meaningful experiences for her children.

Melissa’s professional journey began as an Executive Assistant at Chase Mortgage. Fearlessly pursuing her dreams, she returned to school to earn a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education. She went on to start a home daycare and worked at several childcare facilities. As her sons grew older, Melissa transitioned to working in the Olentangy School District, where she served as an instructional aide for students with special needs at Scioto Ridge Elementary, Liberty Middle School, and Liberty High School. Her work made a lasting impact on the lives of many students and families.

Melissa was known for her caring, and attentive nature, always willing to lend a helping hand. Her heart for service extended beyond her career, as she volunteered with Rock City and the Columbus Dream Center, serving meals and bringing hope to her community. Her faith and generous spirit were evident in everything she did, and she inspired others to live with empathy, generosity, and compassion.

A memorial gathering will be held on January 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, followed by a celebration of life. Both events will take place at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, located at 10051 Brewster Lane, Powell, Ohio. For those unable to attend in person, the Celebration of Life will be livestreamed. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her honor to NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) or ADAA (Anxiety & Depression Association of America).

Melissa’s warm smile, generous spirit, and unwavering dedication to her family and community will be deeply missed. Her impact will live on in the countless lives she touched and the memories she created with those she loved.
