Melodee Ann Blackburn, 71, of Columbus, passed away December 17, 2023. She was born in Charleston, South Carolina on August 7, 1952 to the late Bill and Beverly (Deadwyler) Essex. She married John P. Blackburn on November 1, 2003, and he survives.
Others left to cherish her memory with John includes son, Ben (Kristy) Berger; brothers, Lance (Cheryl) Essex and Rick Essex; niece, Heather (Joe) Wertz; and other family members and friends. Along with her parents, Melodee is preceded in death by her sister, Nanette Essex. Her dedication to humanity also led her to being an active member at Vineyard Church and some of their home groups.
Melodee had a loving and caring heart. It extended not only across her family and friends, but into her work. She had immense pride in her work as a nurse, caring for those who need help.
When she wasn't working or ultimately after retiring, Melodee loved to spend time with family out to dinner or watching a show on Food Network. She loved to travel and go sightseeing with John, when she could. When the day came to an end, and she was home, Melodee loved to scrapbook and color.
Celebration of Life Visitation will be held from 2 to 4pm, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, 43032. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or St. Jude's. The Newcomer family is honor to serve the Blackburn family.
