Melva L. Kareklas, 68, of Powell, Ohio passed away at 4:33 am, Wednesday August 17, 2022. She was born on March 9, 1954 in Toledo Ohio. She is survived by her husband, Luke Kareklas, son Brandon Marion, and daughter Autumn Morris. She has four grandchildren, Alexis, Airika, Jonah, and Aurora, and two great grandchildren, Jackson and Aarmon II, She has a large extended family as well in Toledo.
Melva was the matriarch of the family and kept in close contact with "her girls." She was devastated by the death of her oldest daughter, Grace Marion, who died from Leukemia in 2019.
Melva was a Sports Secretary at The Ohio State University Department of Athletics for 21 years. Her primary sports were Men's Wrestling, Men's and Women's Gymnastics, and Men's and Women's Fencing. At times she also assisted such sports as Pistol, Lacrosse, Rowing, & Women' Soccer. She supported upwards of 28 coaches on staff. She was a huge fan of the OSU Buckeyes and could be heard cheering on the Football Buckeyes from down the street she yelled so loudly.
She had a huge heart and was always available to listen and help others with their problems. Although her health problems grew worse after the death of her daughter, she was a constant source of loving support to her immediate family and was very proud of everyone. She enjoyed cooking for her family and giving super awesome hugs that made you feel especially loved.
A Celebration of Life event is being held at Bethel International United Methodist Church at 1220 Bethel Road, Columbus, Ohio 43220 on Sunday, September 4, 2022 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm with a small remembrance service at 3:00 pm.
