Melvin Shuler, Sr.

Melvin Dennis Shuler, Sr., 58, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio.

"Denny" was born on September 12, 1963 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Elizabeth "Ann" Shuler. He was raised in Columbus, Ohio by Ben and Ann Shuler.

He is preceded in death by his father, Ben Shuler and sister, Cynthia Howell.

Denny is survived by his children, Corryne Shuler and Melvin D. Shuler, II; granddaughter, Peyton Nixson; mother, Elizabeth "Ann" Shuler; brothers, Andre Shuler and Anthony Shuler; sisters, Beatrice (Anthony) Palmore and Jackie (Michael) Skinner; and a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.

Melvin served the world as a barber for 25+ years. "Big Mel '' was a mentor to many men and women because of his character and the genuine environment he created at the barbershop. The quality of his craft and his ability to connect with people produced relationships that would last from generation to generation. He was known as the "Mayor" of Columbus from his popularity and generosity within his community. While Melvin was a mentor to the community, his most important impact was as a father to his children. Seamingly every customer can share how much Melvin loved his two children, based on the countless stories he shared. Ultimately, he leveraged his relationships to provide for his family and created an environment to help them succeed in life.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Columbus Northeast Chapel, 3047 East Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio 43231 with a memorial service immediately following at 11:00 am also at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Columbus Northeast Chapel.
