Memorial, "Mark", (Menelaos) Kalagidis, 95 years old, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his bedside on March 27, 2024. He was born in Canton, Ohio on May 31, 1928 to the late Nicholas and Olympia (Fotiadis) Kalagidis who had emigrated from Pontos, Asia Minor. He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Arline H. Dieringer.
Other survivors include one son, Allan Nicholas (Siri Hari Hari Singh) and his wife, Amrit Kaur, three daughters – Cynthia (Cindy) Ede and spouse, Ollie; Susan (Sue) McNutt and spouse, Don; Merilou Rubera and spouse, Joe; four grandchildren (Amy, Scott, Mark, and Molly); 4 great-grandchildren (Annabelle, Alden, Eamonn, Alden), and many other family and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Mary (Kalagidis) Carvour, brother John Kalagidis, and other siblings.
After graduating from Timken Vocational High School, Mark enlisted in the United States Army, Air Corps Division, serving as a Radio Repairman during World War II and supported relayed messages between the states and overseas arenas. After his honorable discharge at the rank of Sargent, Mark went on to obtain his Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University. He was a member of the engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi, and was a Registered Professional Engineer.
He continued to master his skills serving as an Electrical Engineer for the Hoover Company and then Ametek Lamb Electric Company where he oversaw a Research Design Lab among other responsibilities.
Mark was an athlete who loved to keep fit. He was an enthusiastic participant in the annual Ametek Corporate Challenge and coordinated the swimming component of the challenge. He enjoyed swimming, running, and calisthenics. He also enjoyed dancing and skiing with his precious wife. His children and grandchildren have many memories of dancing and the fun they shared together.
When he wasn't working, Mark also was an avid reader and student of the Word. He was a beloved Sunday School teacher at his church. He loved people and was involved in a variety of organizations to help others: the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Toastmasters, FISH, President of the Board of Directors of the Stark County Crisis Intervention Center, and member of the Board of the Stark County Suicide Prevention. He also served in a variety of roles and Chairmanships at his church.
Mark loved to sing and thoroughly enjoyed music. He was known for his singing and often sang and uplifted everyone as he walked the halls where he resided at Cherry Blossom Senior Living Center.
