1952-2022
Michael L. Walton of Sunbury, Ohio passed away on April 11, 2022. Mike is survived by his wife of 48 years, Teri Walton (Sabatino), daughters Michele and Nicole (Mike) de Bear, grandchildren, McKayla, Kennedy, and Joey, his father Don (Maxine), sisters Robin (Ron) Pirallo, Lee (David) Hogan, step-brother Richard (Terese) Bailey, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Paula and sister Heidi Steitz.
Mike was born on November 15, 1952 in Tiffin, OH before moving to Baltimore, MD, Lansing, MI, and finally Delaware, OH.
Mike was the President of the youth fellowship at the Bellpoint Evangelical United Brethren Church.
He and Teri met in 1969 while snowmobiling in Traverse City, and started dating a few months later.
He worked for Massey Ferguson while earning his degree. Mike attended Ohio University for (1) year, then transferred to The Ohio State University where he graduated with a B.S. in Political Science. While at OSU, he was the President of the Flying Club and a member of ROTC.
He served in the United States Army – Armor Division until his honorable discharge as a First Lieutenant in 1982.
In the 1970's, Mike was a sales supervisor for Buckeye Potato Chip Company as well as the manager of the Delaware Municipal Airport.
Mike and Teri married on June 15, 1974 in Columbus, OH.
Always the entrepreneur, Mike started Nite Lite, "Your Billboard in the Sky". This was a "moving marquee displaying your message for all to see".
In 1979 he attended air traffic control school in Oklahoma City, and eventually moved to Cleveland, OH where Mike was an air traffic controller at Oberlin Center. Mike took pride in the fact that he was fired only once, and it was by the President of the United States. (Air traffic controller strike in 1981) He then worked for both Radio Shack and Smart Solutions in Oberlin before he and Teri opened a Personal Computer Rental franchise in both Cleveland and Columbus.
He moved the family back to Columbus in 1988 where they refocused their business and created Walton Commercial Enterprises which included PCR of Columbus, PCR of Cleveland, and Personal Computer Resources – "A State of the Art Training Facility". This eventually became Walcom Registration Services.
Mike was a devoted father, and his grandchildren became his world. He delighted in the time he was able to spend with "his babies" whether it was playing on "Monkey Island", creating "spooky hayrides", or getting his face smashed in his angel food birthday cakes!
Mike was thankful for the gift of time to fulfill his lifelong dream of traveling Route 66!
Mike and his family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Erin Macrae and her staff at Columbus Oncology, Trina with Dr. Merryman, Misty with Dr. Goodlive, and all of the nursing staff at Riverside Methodist Hospital who cared for him.
Family will receive friends on Monday, April 18, 2022 from 4:00-7:00pm at Newcomer Funeral Home in Powell, OH. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Mike's name to the Tunnel To Towers Foundation.
