Michelle Hartmus Stobart
After a prolonged struggle with poor health, "Michelle Amy" died at OSU Medical Center in Columbus on Friday, November 21, 2003.
Born to Connie and the late Ed Hartmus in Chillicothe on February 1, 1956, Michelle enjoyed happy homes, friends, and experiences in Minnesota, Illinois, and Virginia, where she graduated from Prince George High School in 1974. She attended Hocking Technical College in Nelsonville before moving to Orient, Ohio with her new husband, Oscar Melvin Stobart, Sr., on April 24, 1981. Together they worked for the State of Ohio-Michelle as a nurse-in the Orient Complex and at Ross Correctional Institute and lovingly tended their family of pets.
They were an important part of Oscar's existing family of five adult children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law of Byesville, Senecaville, Cincinnati, and Dallas, Texas. Michelle's extended family include Grandmother Bettie Booth (Florida), Aunts and Uncles, Donna and Bob Gray (also of Florida), Phyllis and the late George Rapp (Fairborn), Joan and the late Forrest Cox, Jr. (Waverly), Karen and Aloise Keilers (Texas), Helen and Howard Loschert, Eva and Dwight Consolver, John and Virginia Hartmus, Steve and Peggy Hartmus (all of Chillicothe), and the late Virginia and Chuck Bushong (Lima). Michelle treasured her scads of special cousins, scattered throughout Ohio and the rest of the country, and delighted in attending family reunions where her laughter, generosity, and culinary experiments were always welcomed.
Immediate family predeceasing Michelle was her father, Edgar Phillip Hartmus, her stepson, Oscar M. Stobart II, and her husband, Oscar, who died December 22, 2001. Since then, retired on disability, Michelle devoted as much time as possible to her mother in Chillicothe and her brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Edith Hartmus of Upper Arlington. Known as "Auntie M" to their children Erica Nicole and Zoltan Jackson, she was the toddler's main source of special treats, Easter baskets and funny pet stories.
Since Michelle's hospitalization in June, special and devoted friends of Oscar's and Michelle's, Kevin Birchfield (London), Lois McCoy (Circleville), Annette Bivens, and Anita, Jon and Jason McFann (all of Orient) have worked hard and diligently to prepare her house for Michelle's homecoming and have cared well and faithfully for her menagerie. May God bless them and Michelle and her grieving family.
According to Michelle's wishes, no services will be held following her cremation. Those wishing to honor her memory may contribute to their local humane society or emergency rescue squad.
