Mona Lee Wakeland

Mona Lee (Bradley) Wakeland, age 90, of Lockbourne, Ohio passed away at her home while surrounded by family on November 9, joining her husband Robert "Bob" of nearly 55 years and son, Randall "Randy".

Born on September 12, 1933 in Rock Creek, WV, she was the only child of the late Arnold Bradley and Ruby (McGinnis) (Bradley) McClanahan. Mona graduated from Magnolia High School in Matewan, WV in 1951. Shortly thereafter, she married Bob and enjoyed being a homemaker while raising their children. After the family's relocation to Ohio in 1966, she then started her career in the healthcare field at Monterey Nursing Inn, followed by 18 years with the Heinzerling Memorial Foundation, where she was named the 1993 Associate of the Year. Mona was an outstanding caregiver with a genuine passion for helping others in need. She also truly relished her role as a grandmother.

Mona is additionally predeceased by her step-father, Clell McClanahan; step-brothers, Monroe and Orville McClanahan; step-sisters Bonnie Tickle and Louise Potter.

Survivors include her loving daughter and best friend, Beverly (Wakeland) Kaiser; grandchildren, Angela (Ryan) Thornton, Kristopher Kaiser, and Pearce Wakeland; great-grandchildren, Lauren and Thomas Thornton; sisters-in law, Patricia Wilson and Veda Nobel, both of whom were like true sisters to Mona, Nancy Wakeland and Eleanor McClanahan; cousins, Angela Midkiff, Marla (McGinnis) Toma, Bernard Rorrer, Janet (Rorrer) Petry, and Brenda (Bradley) Alverson; former daughters in-law whom she thought most fondly of, Christine Ott and Vickie Snedden; special friends, Rick Workman, Marilyn Boggs, and Linda Russ; Brenda Spradling, of whom she viewed as a second daughter; numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her faithful pets, Lilly and Willow.

Visitation will be held Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 2 to 3 followed by the Memorial service at 3 at Newcomer Funeral Home-Southwest Chapel, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio. Private internment.
