Nancy Schornstheimer

July 10, 1927 — October 10, 2015

Nancy R. Schornstheimer, 88 passed away on October 10, 2015 at Our Family Home Care Facility in Columbus, OH. Formerly of Marietta, OH and Brevard, NC; she was born on July 10, 1927, in New York City, NY; daughter of Charles O. and Catharine G. Richardson of Tenafly, N.J. She attended Oberlin College 1944-47 and graduated from Marietta College in 1969 with a B.A. in English.

Nancy married Robert E. Schornstheimer in 1969. During her career in education, she worked in the areas of reading disability and English. She had a great love of choral singing, was a dedicated member of church choirs from 1947-2007 and other choral groups since 1942, including the Marietta Chorale. Upon retirement in 1988, they moved to Connestee Falls in Brevard, North Carolina. During retirement, Nancy was active in the Connestee Chorale, alto member of The Hummingbirds women's trio, enjoyed playing tennis and was a tutor for the Literacy program through Brevard College. She returned in 2007 to Marietta and resided at Glenwood Retirement Community. During this time, she was a member of the Ohio Valley chapter of the National Society of the Arts and Letters, and Marietta P.E.O. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and niece Nancy Richardson of Pleasanton, CA.

She is survived by three children: Catherine B. Riedel of Kaiserslautern, Germany, Janice E. Badger of San Diego, CA and David M. Badger (Amy) of Columbus, OH, a brother Brock Richardson (Alice) of Lexington, VA, niece Susan Richardson of Birchurnville, PA, and nephew Steven Richardson (Grace) of Wayne, PA, step-son Robert L. Schornstheimer (Mary) of Kailua, HI, step-daughter Sally J. Hartman (Ralph) of Hale'iwa, HI, stepgrandson Thad M. Doyle of Akron, OH and several great nephews and nieces.

There will be a memorial service and committal into the Garden of Remembrance at the Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church in Brevard, NC on Oct 30th at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Transylvania Christian Ministry (Sharing House), or the Marietta Ohio Salvation Army.
