In Loving Memory of Neeta Kekane
1944 - 2022
Neeta S. Kekane (Nee Chandra L. Motwani), 78, of Columbus, passed away on August 12, 2022. She was born on January 12, 1944 in Karachi, India (now Pakistan) as the second youngest of nine children to Lolumal and Jamnabai Motwani.
She is preceded in death by her parents Lolumal and Jamnabai, brothers Lilo, Dayo, and Jiwat; sisters Baghi and Indra.
Neeta is survived by her husband of 53 years and the love of her life, Suresh, daughter Sapna Kekane (Ken Toyama), son Navin (Varsha) Kekane; Sisters Ruki, Lacchii, and Devi; granddaughters Lia and Rayna.
Neeta lived her entire life with great energy and passion while treating those around her with genuine love and kindness. After being relocated to Bombay (now Mumbai), India during the India/Pakistan partition with her family, she was a diligent student and was eventually one of only three women to receive an Electrical Engineering degree from the prestigious VJTI in 1966. She began her engineering career in India, eventually immigrating to New York and sponsoring her husband after finding a job. She left her career after her second child was born and the family relocated to Columbus, OH, but continued to use her knowledge as she tutored the children of her community in mathematics and calculus.
Her fondness of Bollywood music and fashion were present in all her interactions with her many friends. She wanted to shine for others and was always willing to pick up the microphone to entertain her friends and family with her sweet and energetic singing voice.
She and Suresh led a life full of many adventures. Traveling to India annually for much of their lives as well as visiting their children in San Francisco, Atlanta, and Austin (with pit-stops in Las Vegas). Their time in Columbus was often spent at parties and other social gatherings with their large group of loving friends. We will miss her kind and loving nature and the vitality she brought to life.
