Neil K. Edwards, child of God, was born July 20, 1944 in Evanston, Illinois to the late Noel and Catherine Edwards. He died on January 28, 2022 at his Dublin residence where he'd received hospice care. Neil was blessed with a life of meaningful work and abundant love. His family is rooted in the New Lebanon, Ohio area where he grew up among a large and lively extended family.
Neil is survived by his wife of 55 years Doris Steck Edwards and by son Jeffrey Edwards (Paula), granddaughters Gwendolyn and Chloe of Bay City, Michigan and by son Steven Edwards (Carrie) of Gahanna. Other immediate survivors are brother Glenn Edwards (James Combs) and brother-in-law David Steck (Anne); nephew Ronald Steck (Stephanie), Mylee and Tiffany Taylor (Kaleb) and Kolton; niece Echo Steck Brock (Scott), Dawson and Addison; and nephew Daniel Wiles (Madeline), Matthew and Kaitlin. Preceding Neil were grandchildren Alexander and Anastasia Edwards of Midland, Michigan (Jeff and Paula) as well as sister-in-law Pamela Steck and nephew Daniel Steck (David and Pamela), and brother-in-law Donald Steck of West Alexandria.
A professional engineer (PE) and graduate of the University of Cincinnati (BSEE, MSEE, ABD) with co-op experience at Dayton Delco Products, Neil was tenured Associate Professor of Research Pediatrics at the UC College of Medicine and Cincinnati Children's Research Foundation where his focus was the care of pre-term infants. His patents for servo-controlled temperature regulation in incubators were part of the technology used successfully when Chloe was born pre-maturely in Detroit. After moving to Dublin in 1987, Neil taught with distinction at Columbus State Community College where he was tenured Professor of Electronic Engineering Technology.
Neil Edwards was an avid reader, teacher, speaker, consultant, inventor and author of numerous publications in his field. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and named to Tau Beta Pi National Engineering Honorary Society and Eta Kappa Nu National Electrical Engineering Honorary. An active participant in amateur radio communications, for many years he served in the Hamilton County Amateur Public Service Corp (ARPSC). A favorite Christmas present was always a new book on physics. Neil was a long-time member of Roselawn Lutheran Church in Cincinnati and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Dublin.
Calling hours will begin at 9:30 AM on Saturday, February 5th, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 5475 Brand Rd, Dublin. Neil's funeral service will be held at 11 AM; the Rev. John Morris officiating. Following fellowship over a meal at the church, interment will take place at Sugar Grove Cemetery, 1544 OH 503, West Alexandria, Ohio. The Rev. John Edwards will assist at the graveside committal. Newcomer Funeral Home, Powell, is entrusted with arrangements.
