Norva Lou Loyd, 81, passed away on July 10, 2022. She was born in Pineland, TX on October 11, 1940.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wayne Loyd, parents, Norvel L. and Lucy Andrews, brother, Sonny Andrews. Surviving family includes son, Steve (Kim) Loyd, grand-daughter, Bailey.
Consistent with the ryhme, "Friday's child is loving and giving, Norva was known throughout her life for these attributes, giving her time and skills to others She began her career as a teacher of English and Latin at Belt Line Junior High School in Richardson, TX and the to Robert E. Lee High School in San Antonio. She joined Civil Service at Kelly AFB in 1964. Mrs. Loyd retired in March 2001 after 31 years as a civilian employee of the United States Air Force. She served at both Kelly AFB and HeadquartersAir Force Material Command, Dayton, OH in Logistics and Financial Management. She was key in establishing the charter bus service to Kelly AFB in response to the oil embargo of the 70's. She was well known as a mentor to employees across AFMC. She was named Kelly's AFB's Supervisor of the Year in 2000. The continuing quality of her commitment to the Air Force was recognized in 3 Meritorious Civilian Service awards (1983, 1996, 1998) plus the Air Force's Outstanding Civialian Career Service Award upon her retirement. She was a graduate of Ball High School, Galveston, TX in 1958. Norva had a Bachelor of Arts in English, Latin and History from the University of Texas in 1962. She received her Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Dayton in 1987. Norva was a member of the Kelly Management Association, Vice President for Membership and Scholarship, Chairperseon and led establishment of KMA funded endowment in 2000 at Alamo Community College District, Honorary member at St. Anne's Hill Historical Society, Dayton, OH.
Her greatest interests were in decorating the historic homes of Dayton, Ohio's St. Anne's Hill for Christmas tours, floral arranging and gardening. She also enjoyed writing professional awards as well as articles for the Kelly Observer and national publication. In spite of her lifelong love of flowers, she requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Alamo Community College District, Kelly Management Association Scholarship Fund, University Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
