Oneida "Polly" Fern Hammond, 84, of Gahanna, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Riverside Hospital. Polly was born to the late Benjamin S. and Elizabeth (Patton) Walker in New Boston, OH, on August 1, 1923. Besides her parents, Polly was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jane Walker; brothers, Roma Lee and Donald E. Walker; son-in-law, Louie Augustine. Survivors include her daughter, Donna Lee Augustine; sons, John W. (Judy) and Mitchell (Suzanne) Hammond; grandchildren, Mark, Rachel, Jacob, Matthew, Kelly, Steve, and Bret; six great-grandchildren; nephews, Scott and Dennis Walker; niece, Sharon (Walker) Scarberry. Polly taught at the Worthington Campus School and was a "Volunteer Grandma" at Heinzerling Foundation for several years. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2008, 5-8 PM at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 East Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH with the funeral service on Monday, June 2, 2008, 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Blendon Central Cemetery, Westerville, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Heinzerling Foundation, 1800 Heinzerling Drive, Columbus, OH 43223.
