Patricia Lee (Anderson) McEvoy(Pat) passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at West Park Rehabilitation Center in Columbus, Ohio. She was 78 years old.
Pat was born on October 13, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio. She was proud to have grown up in the Money Back area of Columbus where she developed many life-long connections to friends and family. She attended Franklin Heights High School, where she focused on business education and earned the Outstanding Business Student of the Year award and earned good grades. She graduated from high school in 1963 and maintained many important friendships that were established during her high school years throughout her entire life, attending reunions and gatherings whenever possible.
After high school graduation, Pat worked at both Ohio National Bank and Huntington National Bank. Her proudest career accomplishment was running the Ohio National Bank on Saturdays at the age of 18. During a training event for the bank, Pat met Robert McEvoy. They were married on March 27, 1965 and celebrated 59 years of marriage together. In 1967 she became a mother and raised three sons, Jeffrey, Philip, and Eric. She worked in the family business, Capital City Accounting, for 12 ½ years from home. Later she became a secretary in the math department at Franklin Heights High School where she served until her retirement.
Living out the gospel was of primary importance to Pat, and she served the Lord throughout her life in many ways. She helped build and organize Amity Road Evangelical Congregational Church, where she served in various capacities including serving on the church board as the Missions Director. She later served as the Missions Director at Life in Christ Fellowship as well. Missions and supporting missionaries was a passion of Pat’s. She participated in several short-term mission trips to Beattyville, Kentucky, Venice Beach, CA, Australia, and Haiti. She was an active volunteer for International Friendship, Inc for 30 years, often bringing international students into her home where she was able to share the gospel and minister to whatever needs they had. She also served as an Advanced Volunteer for World Gospel Missions.
Throughout Pat’s life, she made it a priority to help take care of people who were elderly and in need. At one point, she even opened her home to care for an elderly man for several years. Later in life, she worked as a caregiver in the homes of elderly individuals.
Pat enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she loved to travel and make memories. She enjoyed trips to places such as the western United States, Europe, the Caribbean, Alaska, took children and grandchildren to Disney World, and various other places. She often spoke of having “Pat McEvoy moments” where she would randomly run into friends or even strangers she discovered that she had a common connection to in places where she traveled. Pat was also an incredible story teller, sharing stories from her childhood and other seasons of life with anyone willing to listen. These stories have provided cherished memories for her family and close friends and left a lasting legacy.
One of the details of Pat’s life about which she was most proud is the fact that she was “twice adopted.” She spoke of this often when sharing her life story. As an infant, she was adopted by her parents, Clay and Marie Anderson. Pat came to know the Lord, Jesus Christ, at the age of 9 at Saint Paul’s Evangelical Congregational Church, and considers that moment to be her second adoption. This was an important way that Pat liked to share the gospel message.
Pat was predeceased by her father, Clay Anderson, mother, Marie Anderson Sadler, and her step-father, Joseph Sadler, who she lovingly called, “Daddy.”
Pat is survived by her husband, Robert J. McEvoy, sons, Jeffrey A. McEvoy (Catherine), Philip J. McEvoy (Lisa), and Eric J. McEvoy (Kendra), grandchildren Jochen J. McEvoy (Amanda), Amanda L.
