Paul Edgar Coverdale

Paul Edgar Coverdale, 83 years of age, of Columbus, passed away on July 12, 2021. Paul was born May 22, 1938 in Trinway, Muskingum, Ohio to the late William Krebs Coverdale and Ruth Evelyn (Welch) Coverdale.

Paul attended East High School in Columbus, Ohio, and entered military service shortly thereafter. He served in the Army 101st Airborne Division and as an Army Ranger. He attended Ohio Technical Institute, then worked as a Field Service Rep for North American Aviation, Inc. in support of the Navy's 101 C Systems on board the USS Ranger. He made stops in Yokohama, Japan, Saigon, Cameron Bay, DaNang Viet Nam, Subic Bay, Philippines and Hong Kong. He received a letter of commendation in appreciation for his performance in the successful utilization of the Integrated Operational Intelligence Center (IOIC) on the USS Ranger.

After attending G.E. Computer School in Phoenix, AZ, he went on to work for North American Rockwell's Space Division as an Engineering Associate - Research in Launch Operations under the Department of Defense for NASA. He became a Test Team Member of the Apollo Command and Service Module program and participated in the launch of Apollo 7 through Apollo 13. After a successful completion of the program, Paul and family moved to Columbus where he continued to work as a software engineer. He worked at Wang Laboratories and retired from Lucent Technologies.

From the time he was a young boy, Paul always had a love for the outdoors, hunting and fishing. If he wasn't working, he was on the water or out in the field. He enjoyed teaching others how to hunt and fish and always had the hunting and fishing gear ready on a moment's notice. He dearly loved his family and devoted many years to serving and helping others.

Paul will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, family, friends and all who knew him. Son Todd Coverdale and Grandson Chase Hunter Coverdale, Daughter Melony (Coverdale) Matejka and Granddaughters Jillian Paige Matejka and Krista Jolie Matejka, Brother Timothy Robb Coverdale, Niece Robyn (Coverdale) Faulkner and family, Nephews Jack and Lori Coverdale and family, Shannon and Michelle Coverdale and family, Niece Carol (Coverdale) and Bryan Spirakus and family, Niece LeeAnn Coverdale and family, Nephew Scott Coverdale and family and many grand and great grand nieces and nephews.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents William Krebs Coverdale and Ruth Evelyn (Welch) Coverdale, Brother William Rodney Coverdale and Barbara Coverdale, Sister-in-law Earlene Coverdale and Nephew David Coverdale.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 20, 2021 from 5p.m. to 8p.m. at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus. Funeral services will be Wednesday July 21, 2021 at 1p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens immediately following the service, where military rites will be held.
