Paul "Jerry" Rooney, born on October 22, 1934, in Circleville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024. He retired from the United States Postal Service after 31 years of dedicated service. Jerry was a proud alumnus, having graduated from Circleville High School where he earned baseball and football scholarships to Miami University. He graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Jerry was a man of great personality, known for his humor and intelligence. He had a love for storytelling and was known to bring laughter to those around him. His interests were diverse; he cherished time spent with his grandchildren and enjoyed various hobbies. Jerry was passionate about sports, especially Notre Dame football, and spent many joyful hours fishing and playing basketball. He had a great appreciation for cooking, taking long walks, and watching baseball. An avid reader and trivia enthusiast, Jerry also held a special fondness for old movies and big band music. Family dogs brought him additional happiness throughout his life.
In addition to his numerous talents and interests, Jerry proudly served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, a testament to his dedication to his country. His biggest pride and joy were his children, who he regarded as his greatest accomplishment.
Jerry is survived by his loving family, including daughters Kathy (Ron) Fleming, Dodie (French) Wood, Carmel Rooney, and Caroline Rooney; son Kevin (Dorothy DeChant) Rooney; sister Cinda Rooney; grandchildren Brian (Kaitlin), Hannah (Jason), and Jonathan; as well as great-grandchildren Gus, Palmer, and James.
He is preceded in death by his father, Paul Augustine Rooney; mother, Betty Jean Chapman; brother, Mike Rooney; and former spouse, Anne Rooney.
Memorial services to honor Jerry will take place on December 7, 2024, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest located at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH 43123. A visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. Jerry's warmth, humor, and spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
