Paul Shoaf

September 26, 1924 — June 3, 2021

Paul was born September 26, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio to Sterling and Ferne Shoaf and attended Columbus South High School.

Paul proudly served in the US Army during WWII in the 107th Mechanized Calvary from 1943 - 1945. He spent most of his deployment in Germany where he operated a tank and was involved in several battles. He received numerous commendations for his service, including three bronze stars.

After the Army, he worked at his dad's business, High Frank Alignment, and became owner after his father's death. The business closed in 1990 at which time Paul, an accomplished private airplane pilot, established a new business, High Fly Aerial Design, where he flew his aerobatic plane to pull banners over events, skywrite, and perform aerobatic maneuvers. He was also a flight instructor and a long-time member of the Quiet Birdmen (QBs) Organization where he made many life-long and devoted friends.

Paul had an intense passion for life and adventure and especially cars. He could name every make and model of the many cars he owned during his lifetime. He was a scuba diver and served on the water rescue team of the Columbus Police Department. He taught himself how to sail and enjoyed sailing his boat on the Gulf Coast waters of Clearwater Beach, Florida. He tapped into his creative side with his woodworking and welding skills, making many artistic objects and pieces of furniture.

Most of all, he loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed playing with them and teaching them how to do things. He was truly a kid at heart - always ornery and always looking for fun. Life was truly an adventure to him.

He was preceded in death his wife Jo Ann and his sister Virginia, and is survived by his children Jody, Mike, and Kim; grandchildren Heather, Meagan, Amy, Jessica, Patrick, and Matthew; nine great grandchildren; and his close friends from the QBs and the Central Ohio Military Museum.

The family would like to thank Mt. Carmel Hospice and the staff at Meadow Grove Transitional Care for the care and support given to Paul and family.
