A memorial service to celebrate the life of Paul L. White will be held Tuesday, September 3rd, 2002 7:00 PM at The Inn at Chestnut Hill, 5055 Thompson Road. He left his earthly home for a better one on Tuesday, August 30th. Always a generous man willing to share everything with others, he donated his body to OSU Medical School. Paul was born on June 30th, 1913 in New Orleans, Louisiana and later moved to Chillicothe and Columbus. He met his wife Anna May (Aschner) in 1st grade at Holy Cross School. Paul worked in the grocery business for several years, eventually owned White's Market where he sold and delivered groceries to homes and restaurants. He left the grocery business on December 8th, 1943 when he was appointed to the Columbus Fire Department from which he retired after 25 years of service. When not working as a firefighter and dispatcher, Paul had his own construction business, building and remodeling homes, businesses and garages. He enjoyed his work and had fun piloting planes, riding in hot air balloons, boating, fishing and playing with his children. He was preceded in death by his parents Layson and Agnes (Routt) White, brothers Donald, Wilbert, Robert, Layson Jr.; sisters Juanita, Marcella, and Mary Josephine; twin daughters Mary Lou and Betty Lou, daughter Theresa Agnes; grandson Tony Rathburn. Survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Anna May; children Paul J. (Shirley) White; Rita Rathburn; Patty (Bob) Evans; and Mary Anne White; sisters Gennida (Don) Legg, Theresa (Floyd) Copley; Jane Ann (Jim) Harper. 7 grandchildren: P.J., Kenny (Annie Druschel), David White; Laura (Eric Gombas), Bobby, Joanna Evans; Kathy (Freddy) Lawson. 6 great-grandchildren: Brandon White; Ashley, Savannah and Robby Lawson; Garrick and Destiny Druschel. A multitude of loving nieces, nephews and friends. He leaves a legacy of love and enjoyment of life that will never be matched. We would like to express our appreciation to the staff at The Inn at Chestnut Hill and to Chaplain Larry Baker and the other members of Odyssey Hospice. A memorial Mass will be officiated by Fr. Stluka at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice at Odyssey, 6432 E. Main St., Reynoldsburg, OH 43068.
