Paula Ames

March 14, 1935 — January 9, 2022

Paula Massey Ames, age 86 went to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 9th at 5:00 AM. Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary Massey, brother James Massey, husband Ronald Ames, son Daniel Ames and daughter Jenny Ames. She is survived by her daughter, Laura Anthony, son in law Thomas Anthony and beloved Grandsons Matthew and David Anthony. Also many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Paula was born on March 14th, 1935 at her family farmhouse in Malta, Ohio. From a very young age Paula was a gifted singer. She sang for weddings, funerals, church services and community events all over Morgan County. She met her husband, Ronnie Ames her Junior year of high school, they were inseparable from the start. She graduated from M & M High school in 1953 in Morgan County. She went to the Bethesda school of nursing and graduated as an RN in the Spring of 1956. She worked at Ohio State University Hospital while Ron finished his degree at OSU.

Paula and Ron raised their 3 children Dan, Jenny and Lolly, first in Columbus but they made their home in Grove City Ohio beginning in 1970. Paula was a stay at home Mom in the early years. In 1971 she became a school nurse in the Southwestern City Schools through 1979. She loved her students as her own children. She was a nurse for special needs adults at the Orient Developmental Center in the 80s. She was a state surveyor of nursing homes for the Ohio Department of Health in the late 80s and was a unit manager for Rosegate Nursing home in the 90s.

Paula's favorite nursing position was with the Grove City HS Marching Band from 1974 to 1979. Ron and Paula chaperoned at band camp six summers in a row. Paula lovingly referred to this time as "The golden years." Throughout her life Paula sang in church choirs, mainly Grove City Methodist Chancel Choir, and St. John's Lutheran Church choir. She had the honor of singing in the Columbus Symphony Chorus for two seasons in the 80s.

Paula didn't know a stranger, her family and friends were her whole world, especially her grandsons Matt and David. She had a strong faith and lived it by taking food to friends who were ill. She loved to send cards to encourage family and friends. She is already greatly missed but we take comfort knowing she is with Ronald in heaven and all her family who went before her. Until we meet again Mom...sing with the angels!
