Pauline Coakley

December 16, 1944 — July 10, 2023

Pauline May Coakley, 78, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023 in New Albany, Ohio.

Pauline was born on December 16, 1944 in Worthington, Ohio to Toy and Ivol Barnette.

She is preceded in death by parents, Toy and Ivol Barnette; siblings, Wanda, Charles, Robert, Irene, Nancy, Paul and granddaughter, Inez.

Pauline is survived by husband, Donald L. Coakley; children, Donna (Shannon) Mathias, Pamela (Paul) King, Diane Coakley, Donald K. (Dawn) Coakley; grandchildren, Cortney (Tyler), Caley, Cole, Tyler, Matthew (Dianna), Ryan (Brianna), Austen (Ashley), Saylor, Kyle, Caleb, Autumn, Katy; great-grandchildren, Asher, Lydia, Lilah, Lucah, Logan, Raiden, Ember; siblings, Ronald (Peggy) Barnette, Karen Waddle, many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends.

Pauline grew up in Worthington, Ohio. She graduated from Worthington High School in 1962. She became a beautician and eventually met and married Donald.

They settled in Gahanna and raised their family together. Pauline spent time turning her kitchen into a hair salon on the weekends to serve family and friends. She worked at the local grocery store and at car dealerships but spent the bulk of her career in the mortgage industry. She spent time enjoying her pool, boating, telling rotten jokes, watching NASCAR, drinking coffee at anytime, day or night. And shopping — with most trips requiring a stop for fried chicken on the way home. In her purse, there was always a tube of lipstick, perfume that was distinctly her scent, sticks of gum, pink mints, a couple of dollars stashed, and a pair of oversized sunglasses. She loved being a Grammy and was happy to show off her grandchildren any chance she could. As they got older, she would often secretly slide them some cash when she thought no one was looking. Stoic, resourceful and determined, Pauline was the epitome of a strong woman. She valiantly fought many illnesses without complaint. She is now restored and whole in Heaven, where we know we will see her again one day. Until then, she will live in our hearts and memories, and we will miss her tremendously.
