Philip J. Spencer

Philip James Spencer, 75, of Commercial Point, OH, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, February 14th, 2022. On March 19th, 1946, Phil was born to the late Vergil James and Mary Magdalene (Smith) Spencer in Cumberland, MD. Phil was a teacher for 54 years, most of which he served in Christian schools. He loved homeschooling his grandkids over the last few years. Music was a big part of his life as well. He played violin, guitar, and a little piano. Over the years, he logged numerous hours outdoors, whether camping, playing with his kids and grandkids, hiking, or many other things; he loved enjoying God's creation.
Philip is survived by his loving wife of 51.5 years, Sara Louise (Keim) Spencer. Phil and Sara met through Alan Keim (Sara's brother), Phil's roommate at Cedarville College. He is also survived by his children Micah (Pamela) Spencer, and Amber Spencer and grandchildren Marshall Spencer, Carmen "Lizzie" Spencer, and Samantha Spencer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vergil James and Mary Magdalene (Smith) Spencer, and his brother Norbert V. Spencer (only six weeks earlier on January 3rd 2022).
Visitations will be from 3-5 p.m. on Friday, February 25th and Saturday, February 26th from 10 a.m. until noon. The Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. with Pastors Tom Wright and Jeff Beckley at Memorial Baptist Church, 2435 Eakin Rd., Columbus, OH 43204. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Phil Spencer Children's Education Fund. Due to COVID, masks and social distancing are encouraged and the service will be live streamed on Memorial Baptist Church's YouTube channel (click here ).
