Phillip Hayden Taylor

Phillip, age 77, passed away July 11, 2024 at home surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer of the liver. Phil was born August 16,1946 at Portsmouth Memorial Hospital and grew up in Oak Hill, Ohio to the late James and Margaret Taylor. 

Phil graduated 1965 from Oak Hill High School. He married Betty Chambers on October 21, 1967. They were blessed with two wonderful sons, Jason (Jennifer) Taylor and Barry (Betsy) Taylor, both of Columbus. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren Rylan and Logan, neighbors, family and friends. 

He is preceded in death by his parents James and Margaret Taylor; his sister, Gennie Ruth Yates; brother-in-law, Wayne Yates; brother-in-law, Chuck Chambers; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Cynthia Vickery.

His first job was with Jones & Morgan Hardware in Oak Hill. In 1967 they moved to Columbus and started working for Columbus Hardware Industrial Supplies, serving for 33 years. He went on to work for his friend Herley at Harris Tools for 8 years until his retirement in 2008. 

Phil enjoyed fishing, playing golf, and watching The Cincinnati Red baseball, The Ohio State Football, The Browns, and The Bengals. His greatest enjoyment was watching his granddaughter, Rylan, play softball and golf; and his grandson, Logan, play football and baseball; he tried not to miss a single game. 

Phillip joined the Gillie Senior Center where he met so many good people, learned to play street hockey, and played pool with his buddy, Phil Stevenson. 

Immediate family will greet friends and family from 5pm to 7pm, Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at the Newcomer Funeral, Northeast Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, 43231. A service to honor Phil’s life will be held at 11am, Thursday, July 25, 2024 also at the Newcomer Funeral, Northeast Chapel; with Ralph Gordon from Gillie Senior Center conducting the services.
