Phyllis M. Gill, 97, of Columbus, passed away peacefully at home on December 24, 2016. She was born September 2, 1919 in Birkenhead Cheshire England. She caught the eye of American serviceman, Harrison Lee Gill and he brought her to the United States. They were married in 1947. Harrison was a civilian contractor for the Air Force and he and Phyllis lived in Dayton, Kettering and Newark before retiring to Barefoot Bay, FL. After Harrison died in 1988, Phyllis remained in Florida volunteering for meals-on-wheels and other service projects while enjoying garage sales, dancing and tending to her series of feline friends. Several years ago, Phyllis returned to Ohio to be closer to her family.
Phyllis is survived by her four children, Barbara Gill of Columbus, H. Christopher Gill (Brenda Thompson) of Newark, Graham ( Patti) Gill of Columbus, and Elaine Gill of Columbus; grandchildren, Justin Gill of Los Angeles, Sarah (Erick) Rochette of Port Matilda, PA, Rebecca Gill of Worthington, and Alexandra Gill of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Clara and Dylan Rochette; nieces, Audrey Furlong and Rosemary Campbell of England.
Friends may call at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3393 Broadway, Grove City, OH on Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. with a short funeral service beginning at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a no kill animal shelter of the donor's choice.
