On November 25, 2022, the world lost a wonderful woman. Pia Lisskulla Rud was born on July 30, 1951, in Umea, Sweden.
She and her family immigrated to British Columbia at the age of 5 then finally to Hoquiam, Washington, at the age of 14.
She attended Hoquiam High School and married Gordon LaBrec at the age of 16. In 1976, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she remained until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents Helfrid and Gustaf Rud, her brother Ollie Rud, brother-in-law Doug Franklin, husband Gordon LaBrec, Granddaughter Danielle LaBrec, and great grandson Maverick LaBrec. She is survived by her significant other, George (Joe) Baxter; her sisters Ann (Ken) Ross and Irene Franklin; her children Gordon (Audrey) LaBrec, Tony (Josette) LaBrec, Celina (Jeff) Salmons; her grandchildren, Justin LaBrec, Tony (Jennifer) LaBrec, Rachel (Dwayne) Bolin, Jeffrey Salmons, Zachary Salmons, Adalyn Salmons and Brandon LaBrec. She has 11 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, as well as many nephews and nieces.
Pia had many roles in her life, but Mom and Grandma were her favorite. She dedicated her life to her family and always put others ahead of herself. She was admired for her strength and fortitude by all who knew her and was fiercely protective of those she loved. Pia was hardworking and enjoyed watching the Buckeyes, relaxing with a good movie, a good meal, a white Russian, and a competitive game of euchre.
Pia did not want anyone to spend time and money crying at a funeral service. She preferred everyone to remember her through funny stories, smiles, and laughter. Her rescued dogs, Buddy and Roxy, brought her immense joy. In lieu of flowers, donations to FREEdom Tails Ohio Animal Rescue are appreciated.
