Pravin Maganlal Shah, age 75, passed peacefully on November 1, 2024, at Mount Carmel East, surrounded by his loved ones.
Pravin was born on May 9, 1949, in Sankheda, Gujarat, India, to Maganlal Shah and Savita Shah. He completed a bachelor's degree in economics in India. Among his hobbies, his friends and family enjoyed his cooking and he made a delicious chai. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Kanak Shah, and two children, Deepa Dwyer and Gaurav Shah. Pravin and Kanak moved the family to the USA with the dreams of a better future for their children. Today, Deepa is finishing her PhD at Oregon State University, and Gaurav has been Pravin's primary caregiver and will be returning to pursue a career in Computer Sciences.
Pravin has lived a challenging life. He was raised by a single mother at the age of 7 and survived a car accident in 2003, after which his health began to deteriorate. He struggled with Schizophrenia, multiple personality disorder, depression, and dementia. He was loved and cared for by his family and friends.
Pravin was graciously cared for by the staff at Mount Carmel East during his last days, and the family extends their heartfelt gratitude to them. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Schizophrenia and Psychosis Action Alliance in Pravin's memory through donating a tribute found at https://sczaction.org/donate/.
