Raymond Neil Mcintosh

June 17, 1956 — March 24, 2022

Raymond Neil McIntosh, 65, of Hilliard, Ohio, died after a long illness on March 24, 2022. Neil, as he preferred to be known, was born on June 17, 1956 in Toledo, Ohio, to Charles Richard and Linda Rae (Glanz) McIntosh. He married the love of his life, Susan Darlene (Harney), in Columbus, Ohio on May 25, 1979. Together they raised two daughters, Jeanie and Lindsay.

Neil was named after both his grandfathers, Raymond William Glanz and Henry Neil McIntosh. He grew up in Ottokee, Ohio and attended school in Wauseon, transferring during his junior year to Newark High School in Newark, Ohio, where he excelled in theater and choir, singing bass in the barbershop quartet in the "The Music Man" as well as acting and singing in "Fiddler on the Roof" and superbly playing the role of Matthew Harrison Brady in "Inherit the Wind." In his youth Neil was tall, athletic, and blessed with a wonderful voice and charismatic personality. He was incredibly creative and enjoyed writing hilarious news articles with his brothers about residents of the fictitious town of Joanyville in the Joanyville Gazette.

Neil joined the US Air Force in August 1974 and, following basic and technical training in early 1975, was assigned to Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, where he first met Susan. Following active duty service, Neil returned to Ohio in 1978 and joined the Ohio Air National Guard while attending The Ohio State University, where he received his bachelor of arts degree in political science in 1980. For much of his life Neil worked in management positions in the trucking industry where he received frequent acco-lades for his leadership skills.

A passionate Ohio State fan, Neil rarely missed a Buckeye game, whether on TV or in Ohio Stadium, which his grandfather, Neil, helped build in 1921-22. However, his favorite weekends were those spent with his children and grandchildren, enjoying activities such as fishing, introducing them to the Ohio State campus, local eateries, music, and attending family reunions or simply spending time to-gether at home. They will always remember him for his big smile and sense of humor. Neil was selfless to the end, donating his organs and receiving a posthumous medal for providing the Gift of Sight.

Neil was preceded in death by his father, Charles and his wife, Susan. He is survived by his mother, Linda Rae Edwards and stepfather David Alan Edwards of Gainesville, Florida; daughters Jean (Jeremy) Mousty of Milltown, Indiana and Lindsay (Sean) Jenny of Grove City, Ohio; five grandchildren; brothers Jon of Oakton, Virginia and Brian of Wauseon, Ohio; nephews and nieces, and several cousins.
Interment and graveside services will be in the Ottokee Cemetery in Ottokee, Ohio. The date will be announced to family and friends when plans are finalized. Memorial contributions may be made for Neil in remembrance of his beloved wife, Susan, to the National Breast Cancer Coalition.
