Raymond Ward Runkle

November 5, 1970 — August 18, 2023

Raymond "Ray" Ward Runkle, 52, of Grove City, passed away at Doctors Hospital West on Friday, August 18, 2023. He was born on November 5, 1970 in Columbus, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wardie Raymond and Patricia Mae Runkle.

Ray is survived by his wife Diana Lynn Runkle, daughter Paige (Tyler) Cordle and granddaughter Finnleigh, brother Randall Runkle; sisters Kristine (Richard Teets) Ferrell and Karen (William) Miller; neices Teenya (Ricky) Miller, Chelsie (Cedric) Hutchings, Shyla (Wesley) Dingess, Monica Teets, Brandy Teets; nephews Jeremiah Harris and Bryson Miller; in addition to other extended family and friends.

Ray graduated from Westfall High School with vocational automotive training in 1990. While he actually worked in different manufacturing jobs, friends and family would always contact Ray to help diagnose or repair their car issues. He preferred the outdoors from climbing trees and digging holes as a child to camping, fishing and rock climbing as he grew older. He loved animals and had several pets which also included more exotic animals like snakes, scorpions, chameleons and turtles.

When health issues interfered and caused the loss of his legs, he adapted and tried to maintain a positive outlook in life. He combined his interest in woodworking and gardening by building and designing his own hydroponics setup. Expanded on his cooking of comfort foods: loaded mac n cheese, vegetable soup, fried green tomatoes, jambalaya, meatloaf and liver & onions among other recipes. Several Christmas' included gifts of homemade cookies, candy and marshmallows. He preferred fruits and vegetables over most sweets and peanut butter fudge for his birthday instead of cake.

He had several collections from tools, Coca Cola memorabilia, comic books and action figures. He was a Marvel fan with Wolverine as his favorite.

He also started gaming and met his wife online through Playstation. They enjoyed traveling and visited New York City Comicon, Washington DC; Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone and Redwood National Parks, the Grand Canyon and got married in Las Vegas on September 24, 2011. One of his goals was to make her laugh and smile at least once every day.

His life was cut too short but he had a huge impact on everyone he met. He was loved beyond measure and will be greatly missed. His family appreciates any sympathy and well wishes but ask that you forgo sending flowers. A memorial potluck cookout will be announced at a later date. We hope you will be able to join and celebrate his life at that time.
