Rev. James Merrill Smith, age 83, originally from Canal Winchester, Ohio and having been a resident of Norcross, GA died February 13, 2010. The funeral service was held Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel in Norcross, GA. Rev. Smith was a Minister for the Baptist General Conference serving the Lord with Riverwood Baptist Church in Norcross, GA, Bethel Baptist Church in Duluth, MN, Homewood Baptist Church in Homewood, IL, and Skokie Valley Bible Church in Skokie, IL. He also was a United States Navy veteran serving during WWII. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn D. Copeland Smith of Norcross, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Anita Jean Smith Erickson and her husband Rev. James Stephen Erickson of Cumming, GA, Becky Smith Sarrela of Norcross, GA, Cherrill Smith Erickson and her husband John Erickson of Woodbury, MN; step-daughters, Angela D. Hughes of Danielsville, GA, Pamela K. Orton of Redondo Beach, CA; step-son, Jeffery Brian Copeland of Smyrna, TN; 12 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, and 1 great grandson. A Graveside Funeral Service will be held April 10, 2010 at 2 PM at Union Grove Cemetery, Canal Winchester, OH. Former friends and colleagues are welcome to attend. Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel was honored to serve the Smith family.
