We mourn the loss of Richard Effler, who was born on March 6, 1961, and passed away on July 1, 2024. Richard’s significant presence in Gahanna, Ohio, will be remembered for his profound contributions to the community.
Richard attended Gahanna High School, after which he embarked on a path of service by joining the U.S. Army as a military police officer. His devotion to order and safety was a defining trait.
Having recently retired from a rewarding career in retail, Richard’s work ethic and dedication to customer service were exemplary.
A lifelong golfer, Richard’s volunteerism at the Gahanna Municipal Golf Course was a testament to his love for the sport. His absence will leave a void that will be felt by all who shared his passion.
Richard is survived by his father, Alfred (Al) Effler, Aunt Nancy Lane, and a wide circle of family and friends. Richard was predeceased by his mother, Patricia (Pat) Effler Ewing, step-father Bill Ewing, and son Joseph S. Effler.
A memorial service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 from 2-3 with service starting at 3pm at Newcomer NE Chapel 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus. We extend an invitation to all who knew Richard to come together in remembrance of a man whose legacy is as enduring as his love for golf.
In honoring the memory of Richard Effler, we invite friends, family, and those whose lives were touched by him to consider a charitable gesture in his spirit. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gahanna Residents In Need (GRIN), a cause that was close to Richard’s heart. Your contributions will support the local community and continue Richard’s legacy of generosity.
