Richard C. Henry

June 4, 1946 — May 31, 2023

Richard (Dick) Henry, age 76, passed away peacefully at his home in Columbus, Ohio on May 31, 2023. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 4, 1946 to the late John and Eunice Henry.

In addition to his parents, Richard is preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Cindie (Klauenburch) Henry, his sisters, Barbara Halleck and Martha Lundgren, his brother, Neal Henry, his nephews, Mitch Halleck and Todd Jones, his sister-in-law, Sue Kiplinger and his dearest neighbor and friend, Tom Helmick.

Surviving family includes his children, Allison Henry (Chris Cosnowski), John Henry (Tammi), Jessica Henry, Tyler Henry (Katie) and his grandchildren, Isaac, Ashley, Kaila, Lexie, Kiara, Ava and Greggori. He is also survived by his little sister, Christy Jones and many loving nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

Dick graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, in Des Moines, in 1964 and shortly afterwards enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the Vietnam war, where he earned several badges and medals, including the Bronze Star. Soon after returning home to Des Moines, he began dating Cindie, a high school friend, and they were married on June 28, 1969.

After working for the Army Corps of Engineers, Dick began his career with the Federal Highway Administration, from which he retired in 2010, leaving many co-workers who he was very fond of and spoke of often. He participated in the Future City Competition each year as a mentor, something he looked forward to and enjoyed very much. He liked working but he LOVED being retired.

Traveling, playing golf, telling jokes, teasing grandkids, watching Jeopardy, drinking Manhattans, staying up late, eating good food- these were his favorite things. But mostly, he loved sitting at the kitchen table talking with his loving family and friends. So many wonderful stories were told at that kitchen table. He was the best storyteller- ask anyone! He was truly a friend to all.

Visitation will take place on Sunday, July 2, 2023 from 3-4pm at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E Dublin-Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio. Memorial services will follow, at 4pm, at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Blendon Central Cemetery at a later date.
