Richard "Mitch" Mitchell age 80, of Columbus Ohio, went to his Heavenly home January 12, 2024. He was born on November 13, 1943. He later married Virginia "Ginny" Woods, and together they had a beautiful life.
Richard was known for being so easy going, kind, generous, ornery, and known by his children as their "John Wayne". He was brilliant, with a photographic memory, he was very organized, detail oriented, and could fix anything and everything. He was always willing to help others. He loved watching movies and really enjoyed music. Mitch had a beautiful voice and would sing to his family, children, grandkids. He was also a choir member. Not only was he a handy man, he was an excellent baker, very well known for his carrot cake. Mitch was an animal lover and always had a companion, most recently was his devoted dog Rusty. Above all though he loved and adored his family, a devoted father and grandfather.
Mitch was a member of The Masonic Lodge, achieving the 32nd degree, Southwest Sportsman Club, and a member of First Baptist Church of Grove City. He was an electrician for General Motors for 30 years.
He is survived by his loving wife Ginny, children; Richard Jr. (Kristina) Mitchell, Christine (Christopher) Bosworth and Theresa (Michael) Reeves. Step-children; Doug Haller, Jim (Cindy) Haller, Matt (Connie) Haller and Valerie (Doug) Shanyfelt. Fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild, brother Don Mitchell and aunt Jeannine Watkins. And a special mention to his close friends Rosa and John. He was preceded in death by his parents Eileen Hartley and Walter Mitchell, brothers-in-law Jerry Follrod and Ron Woods, and step daughters Beth Haller Horvath and Darlene Haller.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday January 17, 2024 from 4 to 7 pm at the
Newcomer Southwest Chapel at 3393 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio 43123. A funeral service will be held on Thursday January 18, 2024 at 11 am, located at the Newcomer Southwest Chapel. Mitch will be laid to rest at Pleasant Cemetery, Mt Sterling, Ohio.
