Richard Eugene Thornton

Richard Eugene Thornton, age 83, of Columbus, passed away on February 4, 2021.

Richard served with the U.S Navy after high school. Worked at Columbus Auto Parts and later retired from Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Richard had a great sense of humor and loved to make people smile, his laugh was infectious. There was always music playing wherever he went. He loved woodworking and being outdoors where he took great pride in his yard.

Richard was an active life long Christian, next to his God he loved his family above all else.

He was born on January 31, 1938 to the late Benjamin and Alberta (Rhodes) Thornton in Columbus, Ohio.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by wife Janet (Johnson) Thornton, sister Imogene Basore, brothers Clyde and Steve Thornton.

Richard is survived by his loving children Colleen (Mike) McClune, Carla (Bill) Porter, Dennis Thornton and Kevin (Melanie) Thornton, grandchildren Rick (Lauren) McClune and Kelsey McClune, Luke, Savannah and Sydney Porter, Spencer and Peirce Thornton, Kyle (Brooke) Thornton, Emily, Courtney and Liam Thornton, great grandchildren Carter McClune and Kaiden Kelley, brother Gary (Jody) Thornton.

Close friends and family of Richard, may call at Newcomer Funeral Home, NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd., Columbus, on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 from 10:00am until time of service at 12:00pm. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Columbus, OH.
