Rick (Richard James) Zajkowski
March 17, 1964-February 11, 2024
Rick Zajkowski, 59 (35 days shy of turning 60), of Powell, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 11, 2024 from complications of cancer.
He was born in Lorain, Ohio to Richard and Dolores Zajkowski. He graduated from Lorain Catholic High School in 1982 and received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Toledo.
After working at Reliance Comm Tech in Lorain as a project engineer, he moved to the Columbus area and worked for Liebert Corporation (now Vertiv) as a project engineer, with his most current title being at Wabtec Corporation as a Compliance Leader-Regulations and Standards since November of 2015.
Rick received numerous patents, mostly pertaining to uninterruptible power supply systems.
Everyone who knew Rick knew that he had the biggest heart and was always eager to help anyone in need. Being an engineer, he always wanted to fix everything himself - there was no task too big for him! He was an avid bird enthusiast - learning about the different species, taking pictures of them and building unique birdhouses.
One of Rick's passions, along with cameras and photography, was making videos and preserving memories of old photographs. He had a great talent of putting videos, photographs and music together through computer programs and loved sharing them for all to enjoy. His love of music made him love this hobby so much more.
He was also a great lover of astronomy. He loved taking his 4-foot SkyQuest telescope outside to show everyone close-up views of the moon, Saturn and the constellations.
Rick greatly enjoyed being a Scout den leader and going on Scout camping trips while his sons were in Scout Pack 428.
Rick leaves behind his wife of 27 years, Sue; his two sons, Collin and Evan; and his daughter, Lauren.
He is survived by his father, Richard; his mother, Dolores; his sister, Debbie (Brad) Dill-children Bradford (Alexis), Alexis and Brenton; and his brother, Rob (Lori)-children Antoinette and Aaron, and an abundance of friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 1pm-6pm at Newcomer Funeral Chapel, 10051 Brewster Lane, Powell, Ohio 43065.
Rick's family is deeply grateful for all the love and support from family and friends. He will be missed more than words can say.
