Rita Blackwell

Rita Yvonne Blackwell was born June 16, 1948.
She was the proud daughter of James C. Blackwell and Rose B. Blackwell.
She was preceded in death by siblings Norman Level, Clyde Eugene and Virginia Joyce Simpson.
In Steubenville, Ohio; she graduated from Wintersville High School, where she excelled in the marching band playing the clarinet. She was chosen to represent the High School in numerous competitions throughout Ohio and other states.
After school she enrolled in the Ohio Valley Nursing Program moving to Columbus, Ohio she was employed with The Bank of Ohio.
Shortly after rehearsing with The Columbus Symphony Orchestra she contracted pneumonia causing her lungs to collapse. She would never play her beloved clarinet again.
Using her nursing skills, she was employed with the State of Ohio Department of Health where she retired after 20 years.
Rita leaves behind to cherish her memory, her brother, Frank D. Blackwell, sister-in-law Clara Blackwell, and nine nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, April 14th, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 East Dublin Granville Road, Columbus - OH 43231.
