Robert "Bob" A. Blume, 79, of Columbus, passed away suddenly on March 2, 2024.
He was born in Columbus on May 6, 1944 to the late Lester and Mary (Myers) Blume. Bob was survived in death by his wife, Bethel Joan Blume. three daughters, Robin (Doug) Bess, Joni (Bill) Chamberlin, Carol Bowers and one son, Earnie (Lori) Wheeland. Other survivors left to cherish Bob's memory include his nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren as well as his Aunt Betty, cousins, nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his father Lester Blume, his mother Mary Blume (Myers), two brothers James (Jim) and David Blume.
Bob graduated from Linden-McKinley high school in 1962 and worked for Dixie Distribution. He married Bethel Joan Slater on February 16, 1970, and together they built a family. He is best known as a family man. He was a wonderful husband and father and a constant presence in the lives of his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, fishing, and hiking. He enjoyed camping trips with his family over many decades, always taking time to teach the new generation skills along the way, like baiting a hook, making basic shelter, starting fires, and roasting the best hot dog. He loved taking hikes both far, out of state, and close to home to see and take in the beauty of nature. He remains as a source of adventure to all who experienced his passion for the outdoors.
Bob was able to strike up a conversation with anyone. Often, he would sit to rest and when his family returned, he would have met several new people, usually talking about how proud he was of his children and grandchildren's accomplishments.
He always had quick one-liners that would create laughter at any function he was in attendance. Bob's humor, kindness, and collection of knowledge will be missed.
