Robert William Furlong, affectionately known as Bob, passed away on December 31, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of 93. He was born on October 11, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois. Bob lived a life rich with love, laughter, and unforgettable stories that he generously shared with everyone around him.
In his professional journey, Bob was not just a salesman; he forged a successful business and a career in real estate. His unwavering dedication to providing for his family was matched only by his desire to mentor and guide others. A talented storyteller, he captivated audiences with his humor and charm, leaving a profound impact on those he encountered.
Beyond his career, Bob was deeply committed to nurturing the youth. His passion for coaching baseball and football reflected his love for sports and mentoring the next generation. He believed in the potential of young people and invested countless hours into their growth and development, instilling in them the values of teamwork and perseverance.
Bob's greatest treasures were his family and the moments they shared. He held dear the memories of talking at bedtime, when he would recount the day’s happenings, ensuring his children felt cherished and loved. He shared a profound bond with his beloved wife, Margaret, with whom he spent over 60 wonderful years. Their partnership was an inspiring testament to love and devotion.
Bob's vibrant personality extended beyond his family. He had a gift for connecting with people, whether on the baseball field or among friends gathered for a game of bridge. His love for travel was evident in the 17 cruises he took over the years, exploring the world with an eager heart.
He is survived by his four children: Robert Jr., Beth (Jeff) Leeman, Tim (Bev) Furlong, and Frank Furlong. He proudly watched his family grow, sharing warm memories with his grandchildren, JD, Richard (Laura) Leeman, and Charlie (Lydia) Furlong, and relishing the joy of being a great-grandfather to Shepherd, Rachel, Patrick, and Titus. He will be affectionately remembered by his niece, Sue, and nephew, Joe (Lin).
Bob joins in eternal rest his cherished wife, Peggy, beloved daughter, Kelly, as well as his sister, Patricia, and his brother, Howard. Together, they will forever be part of the fabric of his family’s cherished memories.
Bob will be honored at a visitation on January 8, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a memorial service commencing at 6:00 PM, both held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northeast, located at 3047 E Dublin Granville Rd, Columbus, OH 43231.
As his family and friends reflect on Bob's enduring legacy, they carry with them his lessons of love, kindness, and joy. His spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
