Robert Frederick Halley, 84, of Grove City, Ohio was gloriously welcomed into Heaven on October 2, 2024, while held in the loving arms of his wife of 64 years, with his adoring daughter at his side. Bob passed into Heaven the same way he lived his life, with deep faith, courage, integrity and unfailing optimism. A devoted servant of God, he bore his Cross with both dignity and a rich sense of humor. He never for a moment succumbed to despair, and if asked how he was doing always replied with a thumbs up and “Doing Great!” He was gracious and kind to the end, thanking everyone who cared for him. It is therefore fitting that God blessed him with a holy death; Bob received the Eucharist, prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet the hour of his passing, and received Last Rites with his wife, daughter and grandchildren gathered around. The family is forever grateful to Father Joe Yokum and Father Michael Watson of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Grove City for their stewardship of the Sacraments during Bob’s final days.
Bob was born November 26, 1939, to the late Robert Raison Halley and Margaret Louise (Wentzel) Halley of Columbus, Ohio. He graduated from North High School, attended The Ohio State University (where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity) and graduated from Franklin University. Bob was a banker for over 50 years with Ohio National Bank, Franklin Bank, Society Bank and ultimately retired from Heartland Bank as a Senior Vice President.
Always passionate about service to Church and community, Bob was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Cathedral and served the homeless both as a member of the National Board of Volunteers of America and as President of the Greater Ohio VOA Board. He served on the Franklinton Board of Trade, the Grove City Chamber of Commerce, and the Grove City Chamber Foundation Board. Always grateful for the gift of a great education, Bob was President of both the Franklin University Alumni Council and the Old North High Club.
Bob is preceded in death by his mother Louise and father Robert, his brother William (Billie) Halley of Columbus, and his daughter Jennifer (Doug) Viafora of Chagrin Falls. He is survived by his devoted wife Peggy Halley, his daughter Juli (Tim) Bruce of Grove City, his grandchildren West (Katie) Faris of Grove City, Melissa (Jordan) Tipton of Marysville, Nick Bruce of Grove City, and his three great grandchildren Evie Faris, Riot Faris and Henry Tipton.
The family will receive guests on Thursday October 10th from 4pm to 8pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3393 Broadway, Grove City. A funeral Mass will be held at 1pm on Friday October 11th at St. Joseph Cathedral, 212 E. Broad Street, Columbus. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Volunteers of America.
