Robert O. Hummel

May 24, 1936 — October 21, 2022

Robert "Bob" O. Hummel, age 86, of Columbus, died Friday, October 21, 2022, following a brief time of hospitalization. He now sees his Lord and Savior Jesus, face to face in glory.

Bob was born on May 24, 1936 in Columbus, Ohio to the late George Arthur and Fern Flowers (Mead) Hummel. He attended West High School and then began an impactful career as a glazer. He installed many of the windows and doors seen in schools, hospitals, businesses, and homes around the state of Ohio. Bob especially enjoyed training other willing apprentices during his many years on the job.

Bob married Shirley on December 30, 1969 in Columbus after they dated for just a few weeks. They enjoyed life together caring for their family, home, and several dogs.

Bob's second home was along the shores of Lake Erie, where he spent much time with his family during the summer months. He loved to captain his favorite boat, a Lyman, and often went fishing for perch and walleye. He held season tickets for the Cleveland Browns and enjoyed cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes football team.

Bob lived a simple life, content with what he had been given. He didn't know a stranger and was fiercely loyal to those who were closest to him. He was an active member of several United Methodist churches and served others quietly, behind-the scenes.

Bob was preceded in death by his brother, John Hummel. In addition to his wife, Shirley J. (Martin) Hummel, surviving are his brother Jerry Hummel; son, Dustin Martin Hummel; daughter Beth (David) Rittgers; and grandchildren Daniel Robert, Joshua Frederick, and Anna Cathleen.
