Robert Michael (Mike) Steele, Age 73 of Westerville, Ohio, passed away March 18th 2023.
He was born in Columbus Ohio on December 7th 1949 to the late Bob and Jerry (Atkinson)Steele.
He is preceded in death by Father Cleo Maynard Steele, Mother Jeraldine Mae Atkinson, late Wife Sandra Leigh (Adamson) Steele, Sister Phyllis Sue Deakins and Sister Sandra Hamrick.
Surviving Family Members include his loving Wife Sherrie(Wright) Steele, eldest Daughter Heather and Husband Daniel Dougherty, Daughter Jennifer Greenwald and Partner Todd Markham and Son Joshua Greenwald.
Grandchildren Brooke Coverdale, Kendall and Husband Steve Clum, Nadia Mason, Jessi Dougherty, Alayaha Greenwald, Emerey Greenwald, Reed Markham and Tailer Kuhn.
Great Grandchildren Savion, Mia, Genesis, Ja'mir and baby Camille, expected this summer.
Siblings Patricia Montgomery late Husband Rick Montgomery, Randall Steele, Wife Vickie Steele, Lisa Hiltz, Husband Richard Hiltz, Judy Potock, Nieces and Nephews Traci, Jeremy, Rick, Ashley, Ali, Jennifer, Kate and John.
To Great Niece Emily Steele, thank you on behalf of the entire family for your care and attention to Mike during his final days.
Mike graduated from MC Napier HS (Hazard, Kentucky) and attended The Ohio State University. He worked for many years as a meatcutter for Stafford's Market in the Linden area, but was most proud of the business created by he and his Wife Sherrie, Steele's Display Cases.
He was loved by many. He didn't know a stranger and could talk to anyone. Highly intelligent with quick wit and a dry sense of humor. He loved history and politics, and music was a passion.
Mike was a veteran, but became a vocal activist after serving. He was a diehard liberal and worked at the voting polls for many elections. He loved the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He had a huge heart, was sensitive and loved deeply. He was nostalgic and dreamed of going back home to Cadiz Ohio to spend his remaining years living a simple life with his partner and wife of 38 years, Sherrie. He didn't need much and cared little about material possessions. He was a lover of animals, especially his two cats, who were his constant companions.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cat Welfare or to the Mash Pantry of Delaware County.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 East Dublin Granville Road, Columbus - OH 43231. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at 11:00 am also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in procession to Fancher Cemetery - Westerville, OH.
