Robert W. Evans, Jr.
As firstborn son of Robert and Margaret Evans, Bob joined his earthly family on May 8, 1949. He eventually became big brother to Mark, graduated in 1973 from The Ohio State University, and fell in love with a girl he saw in church named Patty White. On their wedding day, they became known as Bob Evans and his Sausage Patty.
Bob proceeded to establish his reputation and expertise in the manufacturing quality assurance process for 10 years as an engineer at the General Motors Proving Grounds. He took that expertise to GM suppliers, Firestone, Newman, TRW, Abrasive Technologies (Worthington), Pella Windows (Pella, Iowa), in his role of City Director (Circleville, Ohio), to nuclear power plants (Piketon, Ohio), and most recently, to The Armor Group (Mason, Ohio). Bob and Patty, along with good friend Joe Hood, also founded Hi-Trac Industries (produces safety crutch tips for use in rain and snow).
Over the years, Bob and Patty became the very proud parents of daughter Laura (James) Heidell, son Robert (Beth) Evans, and daughter Joanna (Casey) Baker and doting grandparents of Sarah, Rebekah, and Hunter, and are looking forward to another grandson's arrival in July of this year. Over the years, Patty and Bob opened their homes to many college students who they considered their adopted sons and daughters.
Being a man of faith and a student of the scriptures, Bob served as both a member and in leadership roles in Heritage Church of Christ. Bob loved traveling, discovering off-the-beaten path places to eat, and making the acquaintance of the unique characters who cook at and frequent such places. He was a master at finding ways to pick up the check when dining out, and if a person managed to get the bill, Bob would tell the waiter or waitress: "You'll be sorry. You just gave the bill to a lousy tipper!" Bob was a master story-teller. He could cast a line, dangle the lure, and slowly reel in a listener who would feel the hook and hoodwink only at the end of Bob's tale.
Bob's spirit joined his heavenly family on Wednesday, April 24, 2013. Treasuring memories and looking forward to seeing him again in the future are Patty (his wife of 39 years), his children, grandchildren, his mother Margaret, brother Mark (Mary Jeanne), brother-in-law Paul White, sister-in-law Mary Anne White, nephews, nieces, and friends too numerous to mention.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 26, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Grove City from 2-4 p.m. to 6-8 p.m. His celebration of life will be at 10:00 am at the Alkire Road Church of Christ, 2779 Alkire Road, Grove City, Ohio 43123 on Saturday, April 27, 2013. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heritage Church Building Fund. (See family members for more information.)
