SKCM Ronald A. Dickerson, USCG (Retired) of Columbus, Ohio, age 85, passed away peacefully at his home on December 26, 2020.
Ron married the love of his life, Carol, on June 16, 1964. To his great sorrow, she preceded him in death on March 14, 2020. Ron retired from the United States Coast Guard in 1981 after 20 years of active federal service. He is also retired from the State of Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Ron is survived by his two daughters: Dawn (David) Chase and Rani (James) Strapp. Rani was Ron's faithful caregiver this past year. It was a difficult, yet rewarding year and all of the family is very grateful that she stepped up to care for him. Ron has four grandchildren. He was so proud of each of them. Brian (Elise) Strapp, Adam (Emily) Chase, Melanie Strapp, and David (Abbie) Chase; his great-grandson, Thomas Jacob (TJ) Chase was a bonus in 2020. Others that loved Ron are: sister-in-law, Lori (Matthew) Rivette; special friends, Michael and Brenda Case and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sara Townsend. She was his home health aide, friend and companion. Sara showed Ron kindness and respect while protecting his dignity during his last years. He will always be her "Sunshine."
The family will gather at a later date to honor his life.
