Ronald Lee Waugh, 75, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024.

Ronald was born September 19, 1949, in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina to James Dwight Waugh, Sr.(deceased) and Pauline Waugh.

Ronald was affectionately known by his family and friends as “Ronnie and Ron.” He grew up in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. He attended Lincoln Heights High School in Wilkesboro, North Carolina and was the starting center on the high school football team. He graduated May of 1966, and shortly afterwards moved to Columbus, Ohio. 

Ronnie was baptized at an early age at First Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina and upon moving to Columbus, Ohio joined Shiloh Baptist Church.

He was drafted into the United States Army in 1969, and in 1970 received his orders to Vietnam and Cambodia. He served in the 25th Infantry Division, 2nd Armored Division (Hell on Wheels.)

In 1971, after returning from the war and receiving an honorable discharge, Ronnie returned to Columbus, Ohio.

He began a long career with the United States Postal Service as a mail handler from 1971 – 2009. While at the USPS, he served as a union steward with Local 304 N.P.M.H.U.

He took great pride in helping to coordinate the post office holiday party each year.

Ronnie was also affectionately known as ‘Stillwater.’ He was a HUGE fan of the Raiders and the University of North Carolina Tar Heels.

Ronnie was a family man and loved his three sons and grandchildren. He was known for his big smile and boisterous laugh and enjoyed throwing parties. He was known by family and friends for his big Memorial Day cookouts each year. He was full of life and was the family DJ at all our family events as well as the family caterer. He was known for his famous ribs. Ronnie had a perfect attendance at family reunions until this year, when his health kept him from attending.

Ronnie is preceded in death by his father, James Dwight Waugh, Sr., one brother, James Dwight Waugh, Jr. and one sister, Marcia Waugh Bailey; and grandparents James C & Mae Waugh and Lonnie & Nancy Rhodes. 

Ronnie leaves to cherish his memory and legacy, sons; Ronald (Katrina) Jr. of Columbus, OH, Rickie of Toledo, OH, and Ramon (Byrde) of Chapel Hill, NC; grandchildren, Brandon Waugh, Ryan Waugh, River Lliuliana Bleu Waugh, Reign Beaux Assata Moon Waugh, Skye Bleu Nadia Moon Waugh, and Dulce Giuliana Skye Waugh; two great-granddaughters, Miah and Keiyara; mother, Mrs. Pauline Waugh of Gahanna, OH, one uncle, Walter Wilborn, Columbus, OH; one aunt, Hazel Triplett, Gahanna, OH; one sister, Derrion (Vince) Harris of Gahanna, OH, two brothers, Elvis Waugh of Columbus, OH and Kurt Waugh of Bluefield, WV and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, and special friend Denise Thompson.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 2p.m. to 4p.m. at Newcomer NE Chapel, 3047 E. Dublin Granville Rd. Columbus. Funeral services will be Monday, November 18, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. visitation and 11:00 a.m. service at Faith Ministries Church, 2747 Agler Road, Columbus, Ohio 43224 with Dr. C. Dexter Wise officiating. Burial will be at Eastlawn Cemetery, where military rites will be held. To share a condolence with the family, please visit www.NewcomerColumbus.com.
