Sandy Strider (born November 17, 1946) of Columbus, died peacefully on September 16, 2022, at the age of 75 in her home with her loving husband by her side. She was preceded in death by her father, Harry D. Poe, Jr.; mother, Lucille Poe; and brother, Douglas Poe.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Jim; her two sons, David Weaston (Erica) and Scott Weaston (Darla), all of Columbus, Ohio; stepson David Strider (Terri) of Henderson, Nevada; and grandchildren Nicholas, Christian, Aidan, and Aislinn Weaston and Madison and Lilly Strider.
Sandy was, first and foremost, a very present mother to her children and a devoted wife to her husband. She was also an administrative assistant at the Ohio Historical Society and The Ohio State University, until her retirement in 1990.
She enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved music, cross stitch, murder mysteries, TV comedy dramas like Gilmore Girls, soap operas, the shell-filled beaches of Sanibel Island in Florida, Dairy Queen Blizzards, and her many wonderful pets – above all – her African Grey parrot, Moshi.
She loved her family. She often talked about how proud she was of the achievements of her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed her meals out with David and Erica, her Sunday pizza dinners with Scott and his family, and the quiet evenings with her loving husband. Her very favorite time of the year was when the entire family came together to enjoy the holidays.
Above all, she was a devout Christian. She was an active member of several churches throughout her life, including most recently, Vineyard Church of Columbus. She read the Bible and prayed often. Her faith was simple and was the foundation for her entire life.
We will miss her profoundly, but we rejoice that she is no longer in pain but at peace in the place where she has always belonged - the healing arms of a loving God.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 6, 2022, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3047 East Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, OH 43231 with a memorial service immediately following.
