Steven Van Hill

February 5, 1967 — November 7, 2021

Steve V. Hill, age 54, of London, lost his battle to small cell carcinoma on November 7, 2021. He was born on February 5, 1967, in Kalamazoo, MI, to the late Ronald Hill and Dee (Herrmann) Porter.

He was employed at Microcenter from 1988 to 2004. In 2001, Steve opened his own pizza shop called Sparanos, where he worked until he retired in 2013. Sparanos made a name for itself taking home 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place multiple times at Slice of Columbus competition benefiting Nationwide Children's Hospital and even made recognition in Columbus Pizza "A slice of History", 2020.

Steve had an entrepreneurial spirit but a heart for the working class. He sent a letter with concerns for the disappearing middle class and issues of small businesses to Senator Sherrod Brown. He caught the attention of the senator and was invited to be his personal guest for the State of the Union address of Donald Trump in 2017.

Never drawing attention to himself Steve enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and traveling, having dreams of retiring in Florida and living his days out on a boat. He was an avid Ohio State fan, while still supporting Michigan (because of Brian).

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, May Hill; children, Rick, John, Brian, Anna Rose Hill; grandchildren, Ricky Jr., Riley Hill, and Hailee Stegler. Stepfather, Larry Porter; stepmother Debbie Hill; siblings, Lisa, Mindy Hill, Sherry, Bill Kean, Kym (Johnny) Shoults, Lance, Layne Porter, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021, from 2-6pm, at Moose Lodge #11, 1444 Demorest Road, Columbus, Ohio 43228.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve's memory may be made to the family in support of their charity of choice.
