Suzzy Mensah, affectionately called "Akorfa", was born on April 20th, 1984 to Samuel Kofi
Adzanu & Agness Yawa Akoe Adzanu at Ho in the Volta Region. She was the last of eight
siblings. She was God's gift to her retired parents who were headed to the village after Paapa
retired from the civil service sector as the head of Parks & Gardens in the Volta region.
Suzzy started her primary education at Tutu preparatory school from Kindergarten to 3rd grade.
She continued her primary education at Dzogbati EP Primary school up to 6th grade. Following
Dzogbati, she then moved to Accra to complete her secondary education at Presbyterian Junior
Secondary School Nungua where she finished in June 1996. She furthered her education by
attending Peki Secondary Technical (PESTECH), and Ebony Vocational Institute which was
completed in June 2000 before moving to the United States of America In 2002, with the help of
her older sister Sewaa. Here she furthered her education as well as sought greener pastures.
Soon after her migration, She then decided to join her other sister Akosua Pearl in Tacoma,
Washington with her son Raja for 2 years. There she later got married to Frank Ampofo Mensah
upon moving with him to Columbus, Ohio. That Marriage yielded three beautiful and healthy
sons named, Jemuel, Ezekiel, & Isaiah. While in Ohio, she decided to change her career by
attending Paul Mitchell Beauty Academy. She completed the program in 2015, becoming a
certified cosmetologist. While working in her new profession she also expanded her bandwidth
and started working in the healthcare industry as a Home Health Aid. Apart from her careers,
One of her biggest passions was also threading beads to sell, whether it being bracelets, waist
beads, or other creatively stylish and fashionable accessories.
Suzzy loved to doll up. She was always the social butterfly everywhere she went. She loved and
adored her three handsome boys. They were her life. Being a mother was the best thing that
happened to her and she played the role with adoration. Suzzy was a very loving person and
would go above and beyond for anyone. She deeply loved God and was very serious about her
faith, passing it down to her children and always teaching them about The Lord, having a
spiritual relationship with him, and going to church. She loved children and her house was
always full of them.
In 2021, Akorfa became terminally ill which she fought to the bitter end. Akofa went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 16th, 2023 with both of her sisters, Sewaa & Akosua Pearl at her bed-side at Mount Caramel St. Ann hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
Many people who knew Suzzy described her as a generous person who always welcomed them
to her home. She was a selfless individual who reached out to many at her own expense. Suzzy
would carpool the children in the neighborhood back and forth from their various recreational
activities. In some cases, children whose parents could not drive them to their sporting activities
always knew that Suzzy was there for them and confidently relied on her.
If you knew Suzzy best, you know she was an absolute fashionista. She loved shoes, clothes,
and jewelry and made any combination of the 3 work very very well. She could wear a rug and
make it look like a million dollar outfit. She also loved to dance.
She was very serviceable in the church and the Ewe Association.
Though death is inevitable, it really dealt our family a devastating blow with her passing.
We try not to question God, but in this case, we have no option but to ask, "Why does a mother
untimely leave her children she loved more than life itself?" We don't have all of the answers
and we will never have them. Suzzy fought a good fight during her time on this earth. Therefore,
we believe there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness, which The Lord, the righteous, shall
give her on her arrival. Our simple prayer is that God bless and keep her in His care! Her
unconditional love was one of the most notable traits she had in her walking life. She will forever
be missed, forever be loved, and will forever be in our hearts. May her soul rest in perfect
peace. We love you Akorfa!
