Tamara (Mara) Laivins passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 6, 2023 at the age of 92 in Powell, Ohio.
Mara was born in Riga, Latvia on September 27, 1930 to Peteris and Vera. After relocating to the United States following World War II, she married her husband of over 55 years, Andrejs Laivins. They had three sons and raised them together throughout New England before settling in Ohio.
Mara had many passions in life, but her biggest passion was her family. She was a devoted wife, loving sister, and caring mother to her sons and grandchildren. When she was not pursuing her tenured career as a Bookkeeper, she could be found studying history, spoiling her dog, or enjoying the pleasures of retail therapy. Mara will always be remembered for her strength, resiliency, and quick-wit that she carried with her throughout her life.
Mara is survived by her three sons, Mark (Christina), Kenneth (Anne), and Glen (Connie); her five grandchildren, Mark (Jennifer), Victoria, Josiah, Emily (Christopher), and Bryce; her sister Modrite; and her many nieces. She is preceded in death by her husband Andrejs; and her parents Peteris and Vera.
A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 17 at Latvian Memorial Park Cemetery in Tannersville, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mara's memory to the Alzheimer's Association or Samaritan's Purse.
