Terry R. Melvin passed away peacefully on Thursday December 16, 2021, at the age of 77.
Terry was born to Leslie and Georgia Melvin on May 13, 1944, in Urbana, OH. He has 6 siblings. Kaye (Bill) Hott, Candie (Billy) Rice, Teddy (Kay) Melvin, Melody (Denny) Green, Doris (Willi) Green.
Terry is survived by his children, Dee (Frank) Graham of Arizona, Robert "Andy" Hicks of Williamsport, OH, Nana Sue Hicks of Franklinton, OH, Robin Hicks of Urbana, OH, Etta Hicks and companion Dave Johnson of Urbana, OH, BJ Spradlin and fiancée Stephanie Davie of Pataskala, OH, and Amberly (Lyndsey) Brown of Darbydale, OH.
Terry is survived by his nine Grandchildren, Kelli and Kara Graham, Stephanie Morales, Shawn Hicks, Johnda Hicks, Jayce Caldwell, Jameson Caldwell, Isaiah Brown, and Ava Spradlin. And by his seven Great Grandchildren, Jaylyn, Jacob, Aubrey, Cole, Lilly, Annie, and Leah.
Terry is also survived by 9 nieces and nephews.
Terry was preceded in death by his Sister Juliann Melvin, his Parents Leslie and Georgia and his wife Mary.
Terry Graduated from Teays Valley High School in 1961 and enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1965 where he trained in Hawaii and then served in Vietnam. While in Vietnam he served with A Battery, 1st Battalion, of the 8th Artillery. He earned the Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. Terry returned home after departing the Army in 1965 as a Sargent, E-5
Terry was joined in Holy Matrimony with his wife Mary Etta Melvin on September 23, 1984.
Terry went to Columbus State and received a degree in accounting. He went on to work for Columbia Gas for 38 years, retiring as a supervisor. Terry also farmed and was employed by Hills Agra Tech. Terry loved his time in the farm equipment and the tractor trailers hauling grain. He said he always had time there to talk to God.
Terry had many passions including horseback riding and draft horses and Australian Shepherds. He was very active in tractor pulling and served as the Vice-President of the Ohio Valley Antique Tractor Pullers Association for many years. Terry was a member of the Commercial Point Community Men's Club and was also a member of the Commercial Point United Methodist Church. Terry had a deep love of God and spent much of his time studying scripture.
Terry was a friend to many and would help anyone. Terry's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mr. Howard Draise for his assistance with Terry.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Commercial Point United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. The contributions will be used for projects that Terry was directly involved with and cared very much about.
Viewing with service immediately following will be held between 3pm and 5pm on Tuesday December 28, 2021.
