Theodore "Ted" Hunker, age 62, surrounded by his loving family, went to his heavenly home on December 19, 2020 after a valiant brief battle with cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Ted was born on November 23, 1958 in Pueblo, Colorado to his parents Lewis and Betty Hunker who survive him today. Ted went to Pueblo South High School and then to Colorado State University where he earned a degree in agronomy. He went on to manage outside operations of several golf course communities in California, Colorado, Connecticut and Ohio including, among others, The TPC at RiverHighlands, Tartan Fields Golf Club and most recently Safari Golf Club. He took tremendous pride in delivering a high quality golf experience for all who played his courses.
Ted was blessed with a large and loving blended family. He married the love of his life, Ann Marie Whalen, on October 19, 1996 embracing her children Eric and Amanda Osswald. Within one year, they were blessed with the birth of twin girls, Kendall and Morgan. Ted deeply loved his family. He helped raise his children in a Christ-centered manner. He spent countless hours watching school and club activities, along with high school sports. Ted could be found on the sidelines for almost every college sporting event his children were involved in, from Eric's Xavier soccer to Amanda's Cheerleading at USF, to Kendall's Miami Field Hockey games (vuvuzela in hand) and Morgan's Penn gymnastic meets. He left a positive impression on all he met in those programs.
Ted loved being outdoors and always made sure his home, in particular, his lawn and pool area were immaculate. His dogs, Toshka, Sarah, Gail, Chase and Dash never suffered for attention either. Ted also loved playing tennis, our 15 plus year euchre club, playing in the Roundwyck Cup and hanging out with friends, neighbors and family.
Ted is survived by his wife of 24 years, Ann Marie, his son Eric Osswald (Magalie); his daughters' Amanda Mielke (Connor), Kendall and Morgan; his parents Lewis and Betty Hunker; his sister Wendy Hunker; his brother Tim Hunker and his father-in-law Bill Whalen. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Gari Whalen.
The family will hold a memorial gathering on Sunday, December 27, 2020 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm with a Celebration of life service at 4:00pm at Grace Powell Church, 7600 Liberty Road N. Powell, Ohio 43065
